Upgrading operating system
If you upgrade your operating system (such as from Windows
XP to Windows 7) you must uninstall Lock Folder XP before you begin and
reinstall Lock Folder XP after you finish. It is recommended to uninstall the
program before you format the system disk or install a new Windows OS.
I upgraded my Windows XP to Vista and I cannot find my folders
from My Documents that were locked in XP.
You can find your folders and files in the "WINDOWS.~Q"
folder. This folder contains all folders Vista could not copy. The folder has
the Hidden attribute set for it.
Don't hide critical system files
Don't hide folders that contain critical system files. If
Windows needs a file that exists only in one of your hidden folders, it won't be
able to find it until you make the folder visible.
If you accidentally hide important system files, it is very
possible that your computer won't boot correctly, and you'll need to restore the
system manually.
What if Lock Folder XP crashes?
If Lock Folder XP crashes for some reason, or a malicious
user somehow closes the program, your folders will still be protected for the
entire Windows session. The only way to unprotect them while Windows is running
is to startup Lock Folder XP and access setup, which is why we recommend you
password-protect Lock Folder XP
How secure is Lock Folder XP?

How to lock the My Documents folder?
Please use the
File -> Lock Folder XP Wizard to lock My Documents. If you
add the folder My Documents to the list manually, the folder will disappear in
some time. To recover the folder, please do the following.
Your "My Documents" folder changes it's location,
that's why you can't find data in it. Please clear Lock Folder XP list, open My
Computer, right click on My Documents (in the left pane), select Properties,
press "restore default" button. Or manually find your previous My Documents
folder. It will be something like: C:\Documents and Settings\%MYLOGINNAME%\My
Documents
Is it possible to lock and unlock folders without starting
Lock Folder XP each time?
Yes. It is extremely convenient, quick and effective to
lock and unlock folders using the tray icon and hotkeys. You can configure the
tray icon using Options->Tray icon settings... See Tray icon settings... for details.
I cannot uninstall the program, the password is required.
Uninstall Lock Folder XP is protected with a password.
It better protects Lock Folder XP from other users. To uninstall the program,
you must know the master password you set when you were installing the
program.
Can Lock Folder XP protect folders on USB disks?
Yes, Lock Folder XP can protect your folders on USB
disks.
Can I lock Outlook Express folders?
Yes, you can lock your Outlook folders. Find them in
the following folder: "C:\Documents and Settings\LOGIN\Local
Settings\Application
Data\Identities\{799812AF-FB14-4719-8C89-FC6ED2AE9738}\Microsoft\Outlook
Express\"
Where LOGIN is your login name. C is a system drive.
Each .dbx file is an Outlook folder.
Will my folders be locked in Windows Safe Mode as well?
Yes, Lock Folder XP protects folders in Windows Safe
Mode as well. But this feature is available only for users who purchased Lock
Folder XP.
What is your upgrade policy?
Within one year after the purchase you get all upgrades
to the product free of any charges. Simply download the setup file with the
latest version, install it, enter your existing license key into it, and that's
all. If your one year of free upgrades has already expired, you can purchase the
updated version at a discount.
Of course, you don't have to upgrade if you don't want
to: you may continue using the version that you have purchased for as long as
you like, if it works for you well enough, without paying any additional fees.
